Mid-Century Flocked Snowman Ornament with Black Hat, Hand-Blown Glass, c. 1940–1955

Mid-Century Flocked Snowman Ornament with Black Hat, Hand-Blown Glass, c. 1940–1955

$92.00

Hand-blown snowman-form glass ornament, produced in Central Europe circa 1940–1955, finished in a fine flocked (sugar-textured) coating designed to mimic freshly fallen snow.

The figure features a softly silvered glass face with hand-painted eyes and mouth, a black painted cap, and subtle body detailing beneath the flocking—details that required multiple production stages and careful handling during curing. The flocking remains evenly distributed across the body, creating a velvety, matte surface that contrasts beautifully with the reflective face.

Unlike later novelty snowmen, this piece maintains a restrained expression and simplified silhouette, characteristic of early post-war ornament design—more folk sculpture than cartoon.

Finished with original metal cap and wire hanger.
