Mid-Century Hand-Blown Blue Glass Ornament with Applied Silver Scallop Motif, c. 1945–1960
Hand-blown glass Christmas ornament produced in postwar Europe, circa 1945–1960, likely originating from Germany (Lauscha region) or Eastern Europe. The ornament features a spherical hand-blown blue glass body, finished with an applied silver scallop motif painted directly onto the surface.
The scalloped pattern was applied freehand using metallic silver paint, then lightly sealed—an artisanal decorative method common before fully standardized ornament production. Subtle variations in the scallop spacing and line thickness reflect hand application rather than stencil or transfer.
The glass body shows gentle irregularity consistent with mouth-blown manufacture. The interior appears lightly silvered, allowing the blue glass to hold depth while reflecting ambient light softly rather than brightly.
Finished with its original metal cap and wire hanger. When displayed, the ornament reads as restrained and graphic—more pattern than novelty—making it especially suited to minimalist or natural holiday arrangements.
