Mid-Century Hand-Blown Cupcake-Form Glass Ornament with Polychrome Topping, c. 1950–1970

$48.00

Hand-blown cupcake-form glass ornament produced in Central Europe, circa 1950–1970, likely originating from Germany (Lauscha region) or a neighboring glassmaking center known for novelty food-form ornaments. Dessert-themed ornaments gained popularity in the mid-century period as playful counterpoints to traditional figural and reflector forms.

The ornament is formed in a miniature cupcake silhouette, with a deeply textured raspberry-pink molded base suggesting a paper liner. The top is finished with a silvered “frosting” effect accented by applied glass rosettes in teal blue and amber yellow, creating a bright, jewel-toned contrast. A band of textured white decoration separates the base from the topping, adding dimensional clarity to the form.

The internal silvering remains present, softly diffused with age. Variation in glass thickness, color saturation, and applied elements is visible and consistent with hand-blown, hand-assembled production. The ornament retains its original metal cap and wire hanger. Light surface wear and patina are appropriate to age and careful vintage handling.
