Mid-Century Hand-Blown Glass Church Ornament with Pink Luster Finish and Painted Windows, c. 1945–1960

$110.00

Hand-blown figural glass ornament produced in postwar Europe, circa 1945–1960, likely originating from Czechoslovakia or Germany, where architectural and village-scene ornaments were produced alongside Santas and botanical forms. The ornament is formed as a stylized church structure, with stepped rooflines and recessed window details.

The glass body was mouth-blown into a figural mold, then finished with a pink luster glaze, giving the surface a soft, pearlescent sheen rather than high reflectivity. Windows were hand-painted in cobalt blue enamel, applied individually to each opening—an artisanal detail characteristic of small-batch ornament workshops rather than later industrial production.

The interior appears lightly silvered, allowing the ornament to glow subtly when lit without overwhelming the surface detail. Gentle asymmetry in the roofline and base reflects hand production. Finished with its original metal cap and wire hanger.

Church ornaments of this type were popular in the immediate postwar years, reflecting themes of continuity, rebuilding, and village life rather than novelty or spectacle. This example reads as narrative and architectural—closer to a small object study than decorative excess.
