Mid-Century Elongated Faceted Glass Ornament with Ribbed Jewel Panels, c. 1955–1965

Mid-Century Elongated Faceted Glass Ornament with Ribbed Jewel Panels, c. 1955–1965

$88.00

Hand-blown and mold-pressed glass ornament produced in postwar Europe, circa 1955–1965, likely from the Lauscha region of Germany or former Czechoslovakia. The ornament features an elongated faceted form with alternating ribbed jewel panels in deep ruby red and teal green, backed by internal silvering to enhance light reflection.

Each color panel was formed by pressing hot glass into a faceted mold, then selectively colored and silvered from within—a labor-intensive process characteristic of mid-century ornament production. Subtle irregularities in the glass thickness and facet alignment are consistent with hand-blown manufacture and distinguish it from later machine-made examples.

Finished with an original metal cap and wire hanger. When illuminated, the ornament reads more like a small architectural object than decoration—light refracts through each facet, creating depth rather than shine.

A refined example of mid-century European holiday craftsmanship, produced during a period when ornament design emphasized color, geometry, and optimism over novelty.
